Central team in Tuticorin


A special monitoring committee representing the central government will assess the rain affected areas in various parts of Tuticorin district on Saturday. The team comprising Digvijay Mishra, K. Manoharan, R. Thangamani will take stock of the rain hit areas in the district, according to a statement. The team will visit places including Surangudi, Kumarasakkannapuram, Pillaiyarnatham, Padarnthapuli, Valasamudram, Mukkani, Authoor and Tiruchendur. Ahead of their arrival, the meeting was convened at collectorate to review the relief works under various departments. The meeting was presided over by Swaran Singh, the Special Monitoring Officer and Principal Secretary, Food and Consumer Protection.

Minister for Social Welfare, P. Geetha Jeevan, Collector C. N. Maheswaran and officials from various departments attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the officials concerned the preparatory works taken up for carrying out relief assistance to the beneficiaries were projected through a power point presentation.

Earlier, Mr. Singh along with the Minister, the Collector and the corporation authorities made an on the spot assessments at low-lying areas such as Kurunji Nagar and State Bank colony.
